In celebration of HIPE’s 10 year anniversary, HIPE youth, staff, and affiliates are collaborating on a multi-media exhibition to showcase not only the impact and results of the program but also the talent and stories of those who make HIPE possible.
Please note this page is only a preview of one part of the exhibition. Stay tuned for information on how to view the exhibition in its entirety.
VYAGs & “Developing Your Voice”
In 2019, VANGO Network and Design Capital Asia received grant funding to support a project focusing on empowerment and development of very young adolescent girls (“VYAGs”) ages 10-14 in Phú Mậu, a rural area just outside of Huế City as part of the HIPE program. This project aimed to bring these Phú Mậu VYAGs and other VYAGs in the province together with the other PHEs in HIPE (most importantly, other VYAGs from other districts), train them in three basic skills – effective communication, healthy decision making, and respectful refusal – to build and maintain healthy relationships with peers and adults in their lives, and to create environments to practice the skills and strengthen the relationships with each other and those involved in this project’s activities.
Project activities included delivering the healthy relationships workshop to peers in their community, participating in a series of “Developing Your Voice” workshops designed to introduce VYAGs to new skills to explore and express their experience and perspective, and putting together the products from these workshops. We wanted our VYAGs to know that their thoughts, ideas, and opinions are important and valued, that they are important and valued.
To be continued.
Following the photography workshops, the “Developing Your Voice” series continued to introduce other creative outlets to the students, such as collaging, storytelling, and writing. These will also be included. Below is a preview of the magazine they are putting together to share their art and their stories. We are excited to share more with you later.
